Developing A Hashtag Strategy

 


For this week’s post I’m going to talk about the importance of hashtag strategy for Instagram and give some basic steps on how to develop one. You might be wondering why is hashtag strategy so important? Well, according to Benjamin Chacon, “Even in 2021, using relevant, targeted hashtags on your posts and stories is one of the best ways to get discovered by new audiences on Instagram." Which I think really sums up why developing an effective hashtag strategy can be so useful. 

Now, that we’ve covered the importance of implementing hashtags on Instagram I want to cover an overview of how to develop an effective hashtag strategy. The first step is to understand what you want your brand to be associated and then develop clear goals that you hope to achieve from implementing your strategy. Next, you have to conduct some research on what hashtags are out there in order to get a better idea of what one’s you can and should use. For this step, using online hashtag research tools to identify existing hashtags and which hashtags are currently trending. The next step is to choose your which hashtags you want to use. It’s important that you choose hashtags that are relevant to your brand and to your target audience, this will help create staying power. The last step is to execute your strategy and then measure your success. You can use online tools to follow real-time analysis of how your hashtags are performing, this will let you know if you’re strategy is working towards the goals you set earlier on or if you need to make some adjustments.
