Critical Analysis - Chapter 2

As a class we've finished up chapter one and are heading into chapter two. This chapter is centered on developing your personal brand, which is a bit of a love language for me. I'm always interested in learning about what goes into making a good personal brand, especially since it's such an important aspect in the field of social media marketing. I'm a strong believer in developing your own personal brand regardless of your industry or aspirations. I see it as an opportunity to build a reputation of expertise and to build a wide network that could benefit you in the future.

A section of this chapter that I found particularly interesting is the piece on auditing your personal brand. This is a great first step when focusing in on your own brand, because it always helps to know what information is already out there regarding yourself. I decided to take the advice offered in the chapter and did a quick google search of my name. I was very surprised to find that some personal information was so easily accessible. However, this really highlighted how efficient the internet can be and reinforced why it is so important to keep a grasp on what information you put out into the online space.

In my opinion, auditing your personal brand can also show you the gaps in your branding. For example, in my experience I have found that it is extremely beneficial to make sure your branding is streamlined across all platforms. So, ensuring that the appearance, caliber and overall experience of your brand is the same across your website and social media accounts is essential in the world of social media marketing. Taking a moment to audit your own brand can help you pick out where the inconsistencies are, if any.

Overall, I really enjoyed this chapter and found it very insightful. I enjoyed being able to find congruencies within my own knowledge of the industry and with the information provided throughout the chapter. I also had a great time learning new things, such as some of the tips on how to optimize LinkedIn and Twitter.
