I’ll be honest, when I think of the perfect social media platforms to market a business on Snapchat is not the first to come to mind. In fact, Snapchat probably is my fifth choice when it comes to choosing a platform to focus marketing efforts on. However, Chapter 7 does a great job of explaining the benefits of including Snapchat as one of the platforms utilized within your next marketing strategy. The text really highlights how Snapchat can be used to increase brand awareness, increase consideration and drive action.
When I think of Snapchat, the memories of using it to keep in contact with friends throughout my younger years comes to mind. As many of us know Snapchat reaches a younger demographic than other platforms like Facebook. So, Snapchat is great for reaching and targeting younger audiences. This concept is reiterated throughout the section of this chapter that covers marketing on Snapchat.
Another useful feature of Snapchat, as pointed out in the text, is the ability to create personal connection through direct messages and video or photo messages. My first thought after reading about this particular feature was the video messages Snapchat sends to its users. More specifically, the happy holiday videos they send out to users on all of the major holidays. These definitely add a more personable touch to the platform’s efforts.
Then there are snap ads, which are just the advertisements found throughout the platform. It was very interesting to learn that snap ads are significantly more successful than other social media platforms, such as Facebook or YouTube. I also was shocked to see that the snap ads receive more visual more visual attention than Instagram ads. Learning more about the statistics that prove how effective advertising on Snapchat can be has really helped give me a larger appreciation for the platform. I definitely enjoyed reading this chapter and learning all about how to optimize Snapchat, especially when it comes to marketing strategy. I’m glad to be leaving this chapter with a deeper understanding and appreciation for Snapchat.
Hello, I liked how you mentioned that Snapchat wouldn't be your first social media option to focus marketing items on. I don't think a lot of people would pick it as their first option, but it can be! Snapchat is mainly used to attract people of the younger demographic and I thought it was good on how you touched on it in your blog!
