Critical Analysis – Chapter 8

 

I feel like I say this about most social media platforms, but Pinterest is one of my favorites. Not only do I love Pinterest for the awesome inspiration and fun new recipe ideas, I love it for it’s marketing potential. So when I saw that this chapter was dedicated to Pinterest, I was so excited. After reading the chapter, I found myself really having enjoyed the Pinterest success stories. I think it is great to learn about some real life examples of how Pinterest was used in marketing campaigns that ended in such successful results. 

The case study on Caribou Coffee, was especially interesting to me. This company utilizes Pinterest to inspire their customers through the normal route of sharing different media from others, but they also held a unique campaign that I’ve not seen done before using Pinterest. As they were looking to launch a new coffee blend, the company decided to leave the new blend should be up to the company’s Pinterest followers. Their followers were urged to pin inspiring images with the hashtag #InspireCaribou to help influence Caribou’s newest coffee blend. The company then chose to reveal the new blend by featuring incoming photos from followers that used the hashtag #CaribouInspires on a live Pinterest board in the Mall of America. I personally thought that this was such a creative way to build excitement and engage customers. Caribou even developed a separate Pinterest board dedicated to revealing the story of how the blend was created to their followers. Overall, the campaign turned out to be very successful and gained the brand a lot of engagement. This was definitely one of the most interesting ways I’ve seen Pinterest used, so I really enjoyed learning about Caribou Coffee’s campaign. 

After wrapping up this chapter I found that I learned a lot about Pinterest, specifically about how it can be such a great asset to marketing strategies for many businesses. I was also really inspired by the case studies provided within the chapter, seeing such creative success stories was a great way to see how much potential Pinterest really holds.
